IN MEMORIAM
WAYNE E. LONG
Wayne E. Long, professor emeritus of
mechanical engineering, died on April 5, 1978. He was 73.
Professor Long was born on July 19,
1904, in Chisholm, Texas. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees
at Texas A&M University in 1927 and 1935, respectively.
Professor Long taught at Texas Tech
University from 1928 to 1930, and at Texas A&M University from 1930
to 1948. He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin
in 1948, where he taught until 1971, when he retired. His research interests
included thermoscience, air conditioning, and environmental engineering.
Professor Long served as a consultant
to the dean of engineering at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand,
in 1953-54 and again in 1957. He also worked on a low-cost housing project
for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
