| IN MEMORIAM
FRITZ OBERDOERFFER
Fritz Oberdoerffer, professor emeritus of music,
died on December 8, 1979. He was 84.
Professor Oberdoerffer was born on November
4, 1895, in Hamburg, Germany. He graduated from Leipzig Conservatory
and earned a PhD from the University of Berlin in 1939.
Dr. Oberdoerffer taught at the Institute of
Church Music in Berlin-Spandau. He joined the faculty of The University
of Texas at Austin as guest professor in 1950. He became a permanent
member of the faculty in 1964 and professor emeritus in 1974.
Professor Oberdoerffer edited a number of classical
works by Bach, Mozart, Purcell, Rosenmüller, Schütz,
and Vivaldi. He was a member of the American and International
Musicological Society and the Music Library Association.
