IN MEMORIAM
AUSTIN PHELPS
Austin Phelps, associate professor of zoology, died on June 1, 1988.
He was 83.
Professor Phelps was born on March 19, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois.
He earned bachelor's and doctoral degrees from Yale University in
1928 and 1932, respectively.
Professor Phelps joined the faculty of The University
of Texas at Austin in 1938 and taught until he retired in 1973. He published
articles in professional journals including Ecology, the Journal
of Experimental Zoology, and Science.
Professor Phelps was elected a Fellow of the American Association
for the Advancement of Science. He was a member of the American Society
of Zoologists, and Ecological Society of America, and the Society
of Protozoologists.
