JOHN O. RODGERS
John O. Rodgers, professor emeritus
of educational administration, died on November 28, 1985. He was 73.
Professor Rodgers was born on February
14, 1912, in Jourdanton, Texas. He received a bachelor's degree from
Southwestern University in 1935 and master's and PhD degrees from The
University of Texas at Austin in 1940 and 1957, respectively.
Dr. Rodgers taught in public schools
in Texas and served as superintendent of schools in three school districts
in the state. He taught for three years at Southwestern University.
In 1959 he joined the faculty of UT Austin, where he taught until his
retirement in 1974. He served as the director of the Teacher Placement
Service and as associate dean of the College of Education.
Professor Rodgers was a member of the
National Education Association, the Texas State Teachers Association,
and the American Association of School Administrators. He also served
on the accrediting committee for the Southern Association of Schools
and Colleges and was a consultant to more than 20 colleges and school
districts during his 40 years as an educator.
The John O. Rodgers Scholarship was
established by alumni of the College of Education upon his retirement.
