IN MEMORIAM
MICHAEL ERNEST SABBAGH
Michael Ernest Sabbagh, associate professor
of geography, died on November 13, 1977. He was 43.
Professor Sabbagh was born on January
3, 1934, in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was educated at the University
of the Witwatersrand, where he received two degrees in 1954.
Professor Sabbagh taught at the University
of California at Riverside and at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
He joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 1968.
Professor Sabbagh's major interests included climatology, physical geography,
Africa, and statistical methods in geography. One of his research projects
was an investigation of particular weather phenomena and special climatic
events.
Professor Sabbagh held a National Science
Foundation research grant from 1959 to 1961.
