MINUTES OF THE FACULTY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING OF
MAY 7, 2001
The first special meeting of the voting members of the 2001-2002
Faculty Council was held in Room 212 of the Main Building on Monday, May
7, 2001, at 2:15 P.M. Bruce P. Palka (mathematics), chair of the 2001-2002
Council, presided. ATTENDANCE. Present: Anthony P. Ambler, Katherine M. Arens, Neal E.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO NOMINATE FACULTY COUNCIL
OFFICERS FOR 2001-2002 (D
1247-1248) „ Bruce P. Palka.
The members of the nominating committee were Bruce Palka (mathematics),
chair, Neal Armstrong (civil engineering), Patrick Davis (pharmacy),
Martha Hilley (music), and Michael Starbird (mathematics).

Election of the Chair Elect.
The committee nominated Michael H. Granof (accounting) and Elizabeth
Richmond-Garza (English). There were no other nominees. Professor
Granof was elected by secret ballot.

Election to the Executive Committee of a member
from the Faculty Advisory Committee on Budgets.
The committee nominated Neal E. Armstrong (civil engineering)
and Thomas G. Palaima (classics). There were no other nominees.
The election resulted in a tie. On the recommendation of Professor
Palka and the secretary, the Council agreed to include both
Armstrong and Palaima on the executive committee. (Some members
had left the meeting before the tie was announced, so it seemed
unwise to hold a second election.)

Election to the Executive Committee of a member
from the Faculty Welfare Committee.
The committee nominated Mark I. Alpert (marketing administration)
and Sharon D. Horner (nursing). There were no other nominees.
Professor Alpert was elected by secret ballot.

Election to the Executive Committee of a member
from the Educational Policy Committee.
The committee nominated Cynthia W. Shelmerdine (classics) and
Michael P. Starbird (mathematics). There were no other nominees.
Professor Shelmerdine was elected by secret ballot.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 P.M.
