IN MEMORIAM
CANDACE S. BOS
Candace S. Bos, professor of special education,
died on August 13, 2001, at her home in Austin, Texas. Memorial
services were held at the Hill Country Bible Church in Austin
on August 18 and at the University of Arizona, College of Education,
on September 8. Candace Bos was born May 27, 1950, in Independence,
Missouri, and graduated in 1972 from Drury College. She earned
a master's degree from the University of Miami in 1974 and a doctoral
degree from the University of Arizona in 1979. She married Robert
S. Bos in 1972. They had a son, John, who was eleven at the time
of her death. Dr. Bos joined The University of Texas at Austin
in 1999, where she served as a professor of learning disabilities
in the Department of Special Education. She also served as graduate
adviser and undergraduate adviser in the department. Dr. Bos was
a national leader in the field of special education. She was a
fellow in the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities
and president-elect for the Council of Exceptional Children's
Division for Learning Disabilities. She authored many books and
over 100 scholarly articles. She was a teacher, mentor, and friend
to countless individuals.
