MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING OF
MAY 5, 2003
The first meeting of the voting members of the 2003-2004
Faculty Council was held in Room 212 of the Main Building on Monday,
May 5, 2003, at 2:15 P.M. Marvin L. Hackert (chemistry and biochemistry),
chair of the 2003-2004 Council, presided.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO NOMINATE FACULTY
COUNCIL OFFICERS FOR 2003-2004 (D 2520-2521) — Marvin L. Hackert.
The nominating committee was composed of the members of the 2002-2003
Faculty Council Executive Committee: Marvin L. Hackert (chemistry
and biochemistry, nominating committee chair and 2003-2004 Council
chair), Jennifer S. Brodbelt (chemistry and biochemistry), Melba
M. Crawford (mechanical engineering), John R. Durbin (mathematics),
Linda Ferreira-Buckley (English), Michael Granof (accounting),
Dean P. Neikirk (electrical and computer engineering), and Bruce
Palka (mathematics).
Professor Hackert called on each candidate to make a brief statement
before the vote, which was by secret ballot.

Election of the Chair-elect.
The committee nominated Lawrence D. Abraham (curriculum
and instruction) and Linda Reichl (Physics). There were
no other nominees. Professor Reichl was elected.

Election to the Executive Committee of a member from
the Faculty Advisory Committee on Budgets.
The committee nominated Kenneth Flamm (LBJ School of Public
Affairs) and James D. Garrison (English). There were no
other nominees. Professor Flamm was elected.

Election to the Executive Committee of a member from
the Educational Policy Committee.
The committee nominated Archie L. Holmes (electrical and
computer engineering) and Paul B. Woodruff (philosophy).
There were no other nominees. The election resulted in
a tie. On the recommendation of Professor Granof, the Council
agreed to include both Professor Holmes and Professor Woodruff
on the Executive Committee.

Election to the Executive Committee of a member from
the Faculty Welfare Committee.
The committee nominated Alan W. Friedman (English) and
Sue A. Greninger (human ecology). There were no other nominees.
Professor Greninger was elected.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 P.M.
