C-9 Parking and Traffic Policies Committee
Participating faculty members: Ross Baldick, Stephen Bartek, and Jere Confrey.

Meetings held monthly, September–May, 2002-2003.
I. Ways and means of meeting parking needs of faculty, staff, and students.
A. Expanded the alternative transportation program to include
1. Texas Express (weekend buses to/from Houston and Dallas). 2. Required bicycle registration for 2002-2003, improved racks in high trafficked areas, provide lock removals for a small fee on the main campus at UT Austin. 3. Enhanced enforcement for bike registration. B. Continued the building of the garages on the periphery of campus to replace loss of parking spaces on the forty acres due to building construction. C. Enhanced the Garage Maintenance Program. D. Improved enforcement of safety issues for reducing traffic on Speedway. E. Performed an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Study to be sure we are in compliance. F. Conducted Annual UT Shuttle Bus Satisfaction Survey. G. Worked with the wayfinding committee for convenience in parking on campus. H. Established specific operation and strategic goals for 2003-2004 to meet the changing parking needs and growth of faculty, staff, and students on campus. I. Pedestrian Crossing (3-way) at North Speedway and Dean Keeton.
II. Establish traffic and parking regulations and to review annually a system of priorities for permits to be issued in reserved areas.
A. Updated the rules and regulations to meet the changing needs of faculty, staff, and students. B. Added multi-year permit renewals for 2003-2004. C. Introduced the C+ permit for student safety and convenience. D. Lowered garage parking rates in the evening. E. Increased the rates of M permits (motorcycle) and C (student) permits to be consistent with rate increases from last year for other permits. F. Met the parking requirements of the Orange Alert.
III. Recommend to the Faculty Council any changes in the composition and operation of the Parking and Traffic Appeals Panel.
PTS met with the Parking and Traffic Appeals Panel to improve efficiency and response to appeals.
