CHANGES IN REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ITALIAN HONORS PROGRAM IN THE
COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS CHAPTER OF THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG, 2004-2006
Dean Richard W. Lariviere of the College of Liberal Arts has filed
with the secretary of the Faculty Council proposed changes in requirements
for Italian honors program in the College of Liberal Arts chapter in
The Undergraduate Catalog, 2004-2006. The faculty of the college
and the dean approved the proposed changes on a no-protest basis on
November 17, 2003, and submitted them to the secretary on November 19,
2003. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of exclusive
application and primary interest to a single college or school.
The edited proposal was received from the Office of Official Publications
on January 30, 2004, and was sent to the Committee on Undergraduate
Degree Program Review from the Office of the General Faculty on February
2, 2004. The committee forwarded the proposed changes to the Office
of the General Faculty on March 10, 2004, recommending approval. The
authority to grant final approval on behalf of the General Faculty resides
with the Faculty Council.
If no objection is filed with the Office of the General Faculty by the
date specified below, the legislation will be held to have been approved
by the Faculty Council. If an objection is filed within the prescribed
period, the legislation will be presented to the Faculty Council at
its next meeting. The objection, with reasons, must be signed by a member
of the Faculty Council.
To be counted, a protest must be received in the Office of the General
Faculty by March 26, 2004.

the section LIBERAL
ARTS HONORS PROGRAMS, PLAN I , make the following
changes: |
Italian Honors Program
Majors who plan to seek special honors in Italian may apply to the honors
adviser for admission to the honors program during the semester in which
they will complete sixty semester hours of coursework. To enter the program,
a student must have completed at least sixty semester hours of coursework,
including twelve hours of upper-division coursework in Italian. These twelve
hours must include Italian 365, Italian 375, or Italian Civilization 360.
A University grade point average of at least 3.00 and a grade point average
in Italian of at least 3.50 are also required for admission. The requirements
for graduation with special honors, which are in addition to the requirements
of the major, are (1) Italian 379H, Honors Tutorial Course,
with a grade of at least B; (2) [in addition to 379H, twenty-one
semester hours of upper-division coursework in Italian; (3)]
satisfactory performance on an honors examination; [(4)] (3) a
University grade point average of at least 3.00 and a grade point average
of at least 3.50 in the coursework required for the major
and for honors; and [(5)] (4) completion at the University
of at least sixty semester hours of coursework counted toward the degree.
RATIONALE: The revision brings the description closer
to that of the French Honors Program.
