FACULTY COUNCIL RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE FRAMEWORK FOR COMPREHENSIVE
ATHLETICS REFORM FROM THE COALITION ON INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS (COIA)
The Framework for Comprehensive Athletics Reform recommended by the
COIA Steering Committee in October 2003 addresses issues such as academic
integrity, athlete welfare, governance, finances, and over-commercialization.
The goal of reform is to bring out the positive aspects of intercollegiate
athletics, which contribute to the personal development of athletes
and enhance college life on campus and off. Support from the Faculty
Council will strengthen the ability of the COIA to engage other stakeholder
groups.
Following are two motions before the Council in support of the Framework
for Comprehensive Athletics Reform:
Motion 1: The Faculty Council endorses the spirit of the Framework
for Athletic Reform of the Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics
(COIA).1

Committee to appoint, with the approval of the Faculty Council,2
