I, Leonard Kleinman, protest the adoption of the Motion to Change the Degree Requirements for All Undergraduates at UT Austin for the following reasons: (1) It is overambitious and will not work, while wasting resources. (2) We are supposed to encourage students to graduate in 4 years. If adopted, this will make it very difficult for most students to succeed in that. Physics students will need 132 hours to graduate and I suspect Engineering students will need even more. (3) One size does not fit all. Science and engineering students cannot take many liberal arts courses. They should be allowed to take those they will enjoy.
