MINUTES OF THE REGULAR FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING OF
April 14, 2008

VIII. NEW BUSINESS.

C.

Educational Policy Committee Motion on Rules for Designation as “College Scholars” and “Distinguished College Scholars” (D 6197).

Professor Lawler reported that the Educational Policy Committee had been asked by the president’s office to clarify the eligibility criteria, particularly with regard to the status of courses not taken in residence, for the selection of college scholars and distinguished college scholars. After reviewing the issue, Professor Lawler said the committee members concluded that the original intention of the policy was that most of the courses involved should be taken in residence. As a result, the committee agreed to new wording in the introductory remarks clarifying that the eligibility for these honors should be based on registration and GPA requirements for courses taken in residence. In addition, the committee agreed to insert the term “ in residence” in appropriate places within the proposed revision of the rules.
