PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE ARCHITECTURE DEGREES
IN THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE CHAPTER OF
THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG, 2008-2010


Dean Frederick Steiner of the School of Architecture has filed with the secretary of the Faculty Council the following changes to the architecture degrees in the School of Architecture chapter in the Undergraduate Catalog, 2008-2010. The faculty of the school approved the changes on October 2, 2007, and the dean approved them on October 8, 2007. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school.

The Committee on Undergraduate Degree Program Review recommended approval of the change on January 23, 2008, and forwarded the proposed changes to the Office of the General Faculty. The Faculty Council has the authority to approve this legislation on behalf of the General Faculty. The authority to grant final approval on this legislation resides with the Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.

If no objection is filed with the Office of the General Faculty by the date specified below, the legislation will be held to have been approved by the Faculty Council. If an objection is filed within the prescribed period, the legislation will be presented to the Faculty Council at its next meeting. The objection, with reasons, must be signed by a member of the Faculty Council.

To be counted, a protest must be received in the Office of the General Faculty by noon on February 12, 2008.

THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG, 2008-2010


NAME OF DEGREE PROGRAM(S): SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE DEGREES
EXPLAIN CHANGE(S) TO DEGREE PROGRAM:
1. Bachelor of Science in Interior Design-To comply with the recent faculty endorsed degree modifications the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design degree we replaced ARH 302 and 303 courses with architecture history courses ARC 318K and ARC 318L.
2. To comply with the recent faculty endorsed degree modifications the Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, the Bachelor of Architecture, and the Bachelor of Architectural Studies degrees: Deleted architecture history course ARC 328 requirement and replaced it in all of the degree programs with a different architecture history course, ARC 368R.
3. To comply with the mandate from the dean of the Office of Undergraduate Studies to reform the course listing under the 2008-2010 Undergraduate Catalog, the School of Architecture removed the core curriculum courses from the degree requirement pages and referenced the core at the beginning of each degree programs.
4. To comply with the course sequence changes initiated by the Cockrell School of Engineering, the Bachelor of Architecture and the Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering dual degree has been modified.
5. Deleted the following from the section "Freshman Admission": Texas resident high school students in the lower half of their graduating class are not eligible for freshman admission to the School of Architecture; nonresidents in the lower three-quarters of their graduating class are not eligible for freshman admission to the School of Architecture or to the University to comply with request from the Office of Admissions.
6. Changed the pass/fail limit from five courses to fifteen hours of coursework to more accurately reflect curricular intentions.
7. Subtracted three elective hours from the Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, and Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and added three hours to account for First Year Signature course core requirement.
