SCHOOL OF NURSING CHAPTER OF
THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG, 2008-2010


Dean Dolores Sands of the School of Nursing has filed with the secretary of the Faculty Council the following additions to the pre-nursing major in the School of Nursing chapter in the Undergraduate Catalog, 2008-2010. The faculty of the school and the dean approved the proposed changes on May 11, 2007. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school.

The Committee on Undergraduate Degree Program Review recommended approval of the change on August 29, 2007, and forwarded the proposed changes to the Office of the General Faculty. The Faculty Council has the authority to approve this legislation on behalf of the General Faculty. The authority to grant final approval on this legislation resides with the Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs.

If no objection is filed with the Office of the General Faculty by the date specified below, the legislation will be held to have been approved by the Faculty Council. If an objection is filed within the prescribed period, the legislation will be presented to the Faculty Council at its next meeting. The objection, with reasons, must be signed by a member of the Faculty Council.

To be counted, a protest must be received in the Office of the General Faculty by noon on September 20, 2007.

EXPLAIN CHANGE(S) TO DEGREE PROGRAM:
Add Statistics in Health Care (SSC 304), Statistics in Experimental Design (SSC 303), Statistics in Policy Design (SSC 305) or Statistics in Market Analysis (SSC 306) as courses that meet the introductory statistics requirement for the nursing degree plan.

Indicate pages in the Undergraduate Catalog where changes will be made. Page 536

GIVE A DETAILED RATIONALE FOR THE CHANGE(S):
SSC 304, SSC 303, SSC 305 and SSC 306 were designed to provide undergraduate students with a sound introduction to statistics with an emphasis on application. These courses will provide more opportunities for pre-nursing students to satisfy their statistics requirement and the emphasis on application will make the content for useful to students.

Yes, this course is offered by the Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation. By adding SSC 303, 304, 305, 306 as one of the courses to meet the introductory statistics requirement for pre-nursing majors, these courses will need to be offered regularly and able to accommodate about 135 students each year.
