MINUTES OF THE REGULAR FACULTY COUNCIL MEETING OF November 17, 2008
IV. REPORT OF THE CHAIR.
Professor David Hillis (integrated biology) reported that discussions with administrators were continuing in an effort to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Faculty Council and the General Faculty Standing Committees. He said there were concerns about the duplication of effort that sometimes occurs within various General Faculty Standing Committees and between specific General Faculty Standing Committees and ad hoc task forces that are occasionally established by the administration. He said there were efforts underway to combine certain committees and to eliminate others in order to reduce this redundancy that can negatively impact the effectiveness of the standing committees and faculty participation within the shared governance structure of the University. He asked Council members to send him their suggestions regarding how to streamline Council operations and improve committee functioning and productivity.
