D 5183 Faculty Welfare Committee Recommendations Concerning University Family Friendly Policies. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on December 6, 2006. Presented to the Faculty Council at its meeting on December 11, and approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on January 22, 2007. Transmitted to the president on January 23, 2007. On March 8, 2007, the president referred the legislation to the provost for review and recommendations. On July 2, 2007, Provost Leslie sent a letter to the president recommending approval. In a letter to the executive vice chancellor for academic affairs dated December 14, 2007, President Powers requested approval of the proposal.

D 5191-5194 Proposal from the Faculty Grievance Committee to Create an Office of the Faculty Ombudspersons. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on December 11, 2006. Presented to the Faculty Council at its meeting on December 11, 2006, and approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on January 22, 2007. Transmitted to the provost on January 23, 2007. In a letter dated May 21, 2007, the provost indicated that he is willing to approve the creation of a assistant faculty ombudsperson position, but would like to revisit whether there is a pressing need. This issue will be discussed with the Faculty Council Executive Committee and the president at their next meeting on October 1, 2007. In a letter to Sue Greninger dated June 2, 2008, Provost Leslie approved the creation of an assistant faculty ombudsperson as a voluntary non-salaried position, without additional compensation such as reduced workload expectations.

D 5989-5993 Creation of the Bachelor of Science in Geography and the Environment and of the Departmental Honors Program in the College of Liberal Arts Chapter of the Undergraduate Catalog, 2008-2010. This legislation was classified as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school and was posted on the Faculty Council web site on January 10, 2008. It was approved by the Faculty Council on a no-protest basis on January 24, 2008, and transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on January 25, 2008. On June 16, 2009, Dean Diehl, College of Liberal Arts, withdrew the proposal.

D 6128-6130 Proposed Policies on the Recognition of Undergraduate Academic Certificate Programs on Official University Transcript. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on March 5, 2008. Initially presented to the Faculty Council for discussion on March 24, 2008. Amended and approved by the Council at its meeting on April 14, 2008. Transmitted to the president on April 16, 2008. In a letter dated May 20, 2008, President Powers asked Provost Leslie for "written recommendation regarding this legislation." In a letter dated, August 18, 2008, Provost Leslie recommended approval of this legislation stating it, "will provide undergraduates clear documentation for certificates being received..." and that it, "provides clear criteria for certificate recognition...and ensure[s] the academic rigor of existing and proposed certificate programs." In a letter dated October 23, 2008, to the executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, President Powers recommended approval of this legislation. In a letter dated October 29, 2008, to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the associate vice chancellor for academic planning and assessment approved the legislation.

D 6174-6183 Faculty Grievance Committee Proposal to Revise the Handbook of Operating Procedures 4.03, Teaching Assistant and Assistant Instructor Grievance Procedures. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on April 1, 2008, and updated on April 3, 2008. Presented to the Faculty Council at its meeting on April 14, 2008. Approved by the Council at its meeting on May 5, 2008. Transmitted to the president on May 6, 2008. In a letter dated May 20, 2008, President Powers asked Provost Leslie for his recommendations regarding this legislation. In a letter dated September 4, 2008, the provost recommended approval, which was granted by the president on September 8, 2008. The legislation is pending final approval from the UT System vice chancellor for academic affairs.

D 6197 Educational Policy Committee Motion on Rules for Designation as “College Scholars” and “Distinguished College Scholars.” Posted on the Faculty Council web site on April 9, 2008. Presented to the Faculty Council at its meeting on April 14, 2008. Approved by the Council at its meeting on May 5, 2008. Transmitted to the president on May 6, 2008. In a letter dated May 20, 2008, President Powers asked Provost Leslie for his recommendations regarding this legislation. In a letter to the president dated July 21, 2008, Provost Leslie recommended approval. Approved by the president on August 6, 2008.

D 6464-6465 Proposal from the Educational Policy Committee Regarding Minimum Score Requirement Earned from Credit by Exam Tests. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on October 20, 2008. Approved by the Council at its meeting on October 27, 2008. Transmitted to the provost on October 28, 2008. In a letter to President Powers dated November 19, 2008, Provost Leslie recommended approval of this item. In a letter dated December 1, 2008, to the executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, President Powers endorsed the proposal and recommended approval.

D 6797-6801 Proposed Mid-Catalog Change to the Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development in the College of Education Chapter of the Undergraduate Catalog, 2008-2010. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on January 12, 2009. It was approved by the Faculty Council on a no-protest basis and transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on January 27, 2009. Approved by the provost and transmitted to the executive vice chancellor for academic affairs on February 18, 2009.

D 6802-6803 Motion to Update the Core Curriculum Course Lists for Natural Sciences Parts I & II for the Undergraduate Catalog, 2008-2010. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on January 12, 2009. It was approved by the Faculty Council on a no-protest basis and transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on January 27, 2009. Approved by the provost and transmitted to the executive vice chancellor for academic affairs on Feburary 18, 2009. Notification of approval was sent to the assistant commissioner for academic affairs and research at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board from the associate vice chancellor for academic planning and assessment at The UT System on February 24, 2009. Final approval received from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on April 3, 2009.

D 6804 Resolution Endorsing the Establishment of Domestic Partner Benefits. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on January 15, 2009, and classified as general legislation. The resolution was approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on January 26, 2009. An informational copy was transmitted to the president on January 27, 2009. In a letter dated February 12, 2009, President Powers acknowledged receipt of the resolution. No further action is required.

D 6849 Resolution Affirming the Ban of Firearms on Campus. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on February 4, 2009. Endorsed by the Faculty Council at its meeting on February 16, 2009, and transmitted to the president for his information. In a letter dated February 18, 2009, President Powers acknowledged receipt of the resolution. No further action is required.

D 6850 Proposal to Change the Name, Function, and Composition of the Faculty Rules Committee. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on February 4, 2009. Approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on February 16, 2009. Transmitted to the president on February 16, 2009. On February 16, 2009, Provost Leslie recommended approval. In a letter dated February 17, 2009, President Powers approved the proposal.

D 6889 Resolution to Adopt a Bicycle Friendly Policy on the UT Campus. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on March 17, 2009. On March 23, 2009, approved by the Faculty Council and transmitted to the president for his information. In a letter dated April 16, 2009, President Powers indicated that the resolution was transmitted to Vice President Patricia Clubb for consideration. In a letter dated June 16, 2009, the Staff Council passed a resolution in support of D 6889. No further action is required.

D 6966 Resolution Supporting the Creation of a Staff Ombudsperson Position at UT Austin. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on March 31, 2009. Endorsed by the Faculty Council at its meeting held April 13, 2009. On April 15, 2009, transmitted to the president for his information. No further action is required.

D 6967-6968 Proposal to Authorize One and Two-hour Course Flags. Posted on the Faculty Council web site on March 31, 2009. Approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on April 13, 2009. Transmitted to the president on April 14, 2009. Backed out and retransmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on April 15, 2009. Final approval received from the president on April 15, 2009. No further action is required.
