REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO NOMINATE FACULTY MEMBERS FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS COUNCILS FOR MEN AND FOR WOMEN

Janet Staiger, chair of the Faculty Council Committee to Nominate Faculty Members for Appointment to the Intercollegiate Athletics Councils for Men and for Women and to the University Co-op Board of Directors, has filed with the secretary of the Faculty Council the report set forth below.

Notice is hereby given that this report will be presented to the Faculty Council for action at its meeting on May 10, 2010. At that meeting additional nominations may be made from the floor.

REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO NOMINATE FACULTY MEMBERS FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS COUNCILS FOR MEN AND FOR WOMEN

Each spring the chair of the Faculty Council appoints a committee to nominate a panel of five members of the General Faculty of The University of Texas at Austin for appointment to each of the Intercollegiate Athletics Councils. Each panel shall, upon approval by the Faculty Council, be transmitted to the president with the recommendation that he or she select one representative from each panel for appointment to the Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Men and the Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Women. If the president declines or, because of rejection of the post by all nominees, is unable to appoint any of the nominees, the president may either request that the Council, through its committee, make additional nominations or invoke a different procedure for selecting the appointees as he may deem appropriate, provided that such different procedure shall include consultation with the Council's committee before the president offers the appointment to any faculty member.

Accordingly, the Faculty Council committee (Janet Staiger, chair) submits the nominations set forth below.

  1. The present faculty composition of the Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Men is as follows:

    David W. Fowler, professor, civil engineering (chair, term open)
    Edmund T. Gordon, associate professor, anthropology (term expires 2010)
    Alba A. Ortiz, professor, special education (term expires 2011)
    Michael Clement, associate professor, accounting (term expires 2012)
    Diana M. DiNitto, professor, school of social work (term expires 2013)

    The panel of faculty being nominated for appointment in 2010 for a four-year term to the Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Men is as follows:

  2. Hans Boas, associate professor, Germanic studies
    Benjamin H. Carrington, assistant professor, sociology
    Edmund (Ted) Gordon, associate professor, anthropology
    Thomas G. Palaima, professor, classics
    Janice S. Todd, professor, kinesiology and health education

  3. The present faculty composition of the Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Women is as follows:

    Mary A. Steinhardt, professor, kinesiology and health education (chair, term open)
    Isabella Cunningham, professor, advertising (term expires 2010)
    Robert Prentice, professor, information, risk, and operations management (term expires 2011)
    Larry D. Carver, professor, English (term expires 2012)
    Barbara W. White, dean, social work (term expires 2013)

The panel of faculty being nominated for appointment in 2010 for a four-year term to the Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Women is as follows:

James Deitrick, professor, accounting
Susan S. Heinzelman, associate professor, English
LeeAnn Kahlor, assistant professor, advertising
Hunter March, professor, music
Tasha S. Philpot, associate professor, government
