PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PARLIAMENTARIAN OF THE GENERAL FACULTY

Professor Hillary Hart (distinguished senior lecturer, civil, architectural and environmental engineering) submitted the following proposal on behalf of the Faculty Rules and Governance Committee recommending changes to the description of the parliamentarian of the General Faculty. The proposal will be voted on by the Faculty Council at its meeting on March 22, 2010. The secretary has classified this resolution as general legislation.

PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PARLIAMENTARIAN OF THE GENERAL FACULTY

Chapter 1: Faculty Governance, Section I: General Faculty

D. Organization
4. The Parliamentarian shall be [appointed] elected annually by the [President, upon advice of the Faculty Council,] General Faculty [and may be reappointed]. He or she shall not be a member of the Faculty Council [and shall be someone other than the Faculty Council Parliamentarian].

4. The Parliamentarian of the General Faculty shall be ex officio Parliamentarian of the Council.


Rationale: To correct the discrepancy in the description of the General Faculty parliamentarian as described in Chapter 1 of the Rules and Regulations.
