PROPOSAL FROM THE EDUCATIONAL POLICY COMMITTEE TO REVISE THE RETROACTIVE WITHDRAWAL POLICY

The Revision of Student Records Committee (RSRC)1 proposes EPC consider the following sentence of the Retroactive Withdrawal policy be changed from;

“A college or school may approve an appeal for a retroactive withdrawal for a semester long past, but only for the most compelling nonacademic reasons.”

to

“A college or school may approve an appeal for a retroactive withdrawal [for a semester long past] for a semester prior to the previous long semester, but only for the most compelling nonacademic reasons. If approved, the appeal must be signed by the dean of the college/school.”

Rationale: In the course of the work of the RSRC, it was discovered that UT Austin's In Absentia Registration policy (D 8670) should be adjusted to better support current institutional practices and is an instance in which we feel the Retroactive Withdrawal policy should be adjusted to tighten administration of academic records.
