PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR THE FACULTY COUNCIL IN THE
HANDBOOK OF OPERATING PROCEDURES

Professor Janet Staiger (radio-television-film and committee chair) submitted the following proposal on behalf of the Faculty Rules and Governance Committee recommending changes to the membership rules for the Faculty Council. The secretary has classified this as general legislation; it will be presented to the Faculty Council for a vote at its meeting on December 6, 2010. Final approval of this legislation resides with the president of the University, and upon approval an informational copy will be transmitted to UT System.

2. Election of General Faculty Members.

3. A vacancy shall be declared by the Secretary of the Council if an elected voting member of the General Faculty misses [three consecutive] two meetings without an excuse in an academic year. The vacancy shall be filled by the next runner-up from the previous election. If the runner-up list is exhausted, a special election will be held to fill the vacancy.

Rationale for change:
To revise the rules of the Faculty Council to permit more easily the replacement of members who are not participating.
