STATUS OF LEGISLATION APPROVED BY THE FACULTY COUNCIL OR THE GENERAL FACULTY.

E. ITEMS UNDER REVIEW BY THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT.

D 8456-8458 Proposed Revisions to the Departmental Budget Council Constitution and Authority in the Handbook of Operating Procedures. Posted on the Faculty Council website on November 3, 2010. The secretary has classified this as general legislation. It was approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on November 15, 2010, and transmitted to the president on November 16, 2010. On November 22, 2010, President Powers asked Dr. Steven Leslie, Mr. Kevin Hegarty, and Mrs. Patricia Ohlenfordf for written recommendation regarding the legislation. On December 7, 2010, Provost Leslie recommended approval of the legislation. Final approval resides with the UT System.

Resolution from the Faculty Rules and Governance Committee Regarding Conferral of Degrees. Posted on the Faculty Council website on November 3, 2010, and approved by the Faculty Council on November 15, 2010. Transmitted to the president for his consideration on November 16, 2010. On November 22, 2010, President Powers asked Dr. Steven Leslie, Mr. Kevin Hegarty, and Mrs. Patricia Ohlenford for written recommendation regarding the resolution and its recommendation “that at the Spring Commencement Ceremony the Faculty Council’s delegation of this approval or disapproval to the deans be announced by the Faculty Council chair prior to the presentation of the candidates for graduation by the deans.” On December 7, 2010, Provost Leslie recommended disapproval of the legislation with the following comment:

...the second section (announcement of the delegation during Spring Commencement) is an inefficient use of time. Therefore, it is recommended that the Resolution not be approved in current form.

Final approval of this legislation resides with the president of the University. Upon approval, an informational copy will be transmitted to UT System.

D 8484 Proposed Changes to the Attendance Policy for the Faculty Council in the Handbook of Operating Procedures. Posted on the Faculty Council website on November 23, 2010. The secretary has classified this as general legislation. It was approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on December 6, 2010, and transmitted to the president on December 7, 2010. On December 10, 2010, President Powers requested written recommendation regarding the legislation from Dr. Steven Leslie and Mrs. Patricia Ohlendorf. On January 28, 2011, Provost Leslie recommended approval. Final approval of this legislation resides with the president of the University. Upon approval, an informational copy will be transmitted to UT System.

D 8485-8486 Proposed Changes to the Description of the Parliamentarian of the General Faculty in the Handbook of Operating Procedures.Posted on the Faculty Council website on November 23, 2010. The secretary has classified this as general legislation. It was approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on December 6, 2010, and transmitted to the president on December 7, 2010. On December 10, 2010, President Powers requested written recommendation regarding the legislation from Dr. Steven Leslie and Mrs. Patricia Ohlendorf. On January 28, 2011, Provost Leslie recommended approval. Final approval of this legislation resides with the president of the University. Upon approval, an informational copy will be transmitted to UT System.

The secretary has classified this as general legislation. It was approved by the Faculty Council at its meeting on December 6, 2010, and transmitted to the president on December 7, 2010. On December 10, 2010, President Powers requested written recommendation regarding the legislation from Dr. Steven Leslie and Mrs. Patricia Ohlendorf. On January 28, 2011, Provost Leslie recommended approval. Final approval of this legislation resides with the president of the University. Upon approval, an informational copy will be transmitted to UT System.

D 8512-8513 Proposed Changes to the Voting Rights of the General Faculty in the Handbook of Operating Procedures. Posted on the Faculty Council website on January 10, 2011. The secretary has classified this as major legislation. Approved by the Faculty Council on January 24, 2011, and by the voting members of the General Faculty on February 7, 2011. Transmitted to the president on February 8, 2011. Final approval of this legislation resides with the UT System.
