UPDATE TO THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PART II CORE CURRICULUM COURSE LISTS IN THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG, 2012-2014

On behalf of the Undergraduate Studies Advisory Committee (UGSAC), Dean Paul B. Woodruff has submitted the following motion to update the core curriculum course lists for the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014. The proposed changes have been approved by the dean and the Undergraduate Studies Advisory Committee (UGSAC) on November 17, 2011. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school.

The Committee on Undergraduate Degree Program Review recommended approval of the change on December 14, 2011, and forwarded the proposed changes to the Office of the General Faculty. The Faculty Council has the authority to approve this legislation on behalf of the General Faculty. The authority to grant final approval on this legislation resides with the executive vice chancellor for academic affairs with notification to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

If no objection is filed with the Office of the General Faculty by the date specified below, the legislation will be held to have been approved by the Faculty Council. If an objection is filed within the prescribed period, the legislation will be presented to the Faculty Council at its next meeting. The objection, with reasons, must be signed by a member of the Faculty Council.

To be counted, a protest must be received in the Office of the General Faculty by January 9, 2012.

UPDATE TO THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PART II CORE CURRICULUM COURSE LISTS IN THE UNDERGRADUATE CATALOG, 2012-2014

Motion
On behalf of the Undergraduate Studies Advisory Committee (UGSAC), the dean of undergraduate studies requests approval to add the following course to the core curriculum course lists for the 2012-2014 Undergraduate Catalog.

CS 312

Science and Technology Part II

CS 312 will replace CS 307 on the science and technology part II core course list. CS 307 is no longer being taught, but it will remain on the core list until the 2014-2016 catalog to accommodate students who may have it on their record. CS 312 will now serve as the entry point for computer science majors and is being opened up to all students on campus.  

 

Background
The proposal to add the aforementioned course to the core curriculum core course lists originated in the offering department and has been approved by UGSAC as meeting the relevant student competencies, which are based on and designed to demonstrate satisfaction of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Exemplary Educational Objectives. The approval dates are as follows:

Department approval date:      July 7, 2011
CNS dean approval date:        August 26, 2011
UGSAC approval date:          November 17, 2011

UGS dean approval date:   November 17, 2011

This motion to add this course, in conjunction with D 9108-9117, will define the core curriculum course lists for the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014.
