REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO NOMINATE VOTING FACULTY MEMBERS TO THE UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE

In spring 2010, the Faculty Council and the General Faculty approved the School of Undergraduate Studies Governance Procedures (D 7982-7983a). Included in that proposal was language governing the election of voting members of the General Faculty to serve on the Undergraduate Studies Advisory Committee (UGSAC). The committee is composed of seventeen members (fifteen voting members) as described below:

  1. the dean and associate dean of the School of Undergraduate Studies, who serve as non-voting members.
  2. five representatives from the schools and colleges with the largest undergraduate populations (associate deans who are faculty members, chosen by the respective deans of Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Business, and Communication),
  3. one representative from one of the remaining schools and colleges offering undergraduate degrees (an associate dean who is a faculty member, appointed to a two-year term by the dean of that school or college; every two years UGSAC selects the school or college to be represented),
  4. six members of the General Faculty at large, elected by the Faculty Council (two elected each year to three-year terms) from six different schools and colleges,
  5. one member of the general faculty appointed annually by the chair of the Faculty Council as a liaison with the Educational Policy Committee,
  6. two student members (the heads of the Student Government and the Senate of Student Councils).
The ballot is a result of nominations received from the voting members of the General Faculty. For this year of the UGSAC election, Council members should vote for two (2) individuals.  They must be from different colleges/schools.  The individual with the highest number of votes and the individual from a different college/school with the highest number of votes will serve three-year terms from 2013-16. Results of the election will be announced during the Faculty Council meeting of March 18, 2013.
