STATUS OF LEGISLATION APPROVED BY THE FACULTY COUNCIL OR THE GENERAL FACULTY.

ITEMS COMPLETED SINCE THE LAST REPORT.

D 9982-9986 Proposed Change in the Admissions and Registration Committee Student Membership, a General Faculty Standing Committee in the Handbook of Operating Procedures 2-1060-PM. ┬áPosted on the Faculty Council website on October 1, 2012. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general legislation. On October 22, 2012, the Faculty Council approved the legislation on a no-protest basis, and was transmitted to the president on October 23 2012. On October 24, 2012, the president’s office requested recommendations from Dr. Steven Leslie and Dr. Gage Paine. In a letter dated December 20, 2012, Dr. Paine recommended approval with notification to UT System. On December 20, 2012, President Powers transmitted the proposal to UT System recommending approval. On January 29, 2013, UT System granted final approval.

D 10167-10171 Creation of a New Student Honor Code and Renaming the Current Honor Code to the University Code of Conduct. Posted on the Faculty Council website on January 14, 2013. The secretary has classified this report as being of general interest. On January 7, 2013, in consultation with the president, the Faculty Council Executive Committee discussed the Senate of College Council’s resolution SR 1203, which supports the creation of a Student Honor Code. It was determined that the current Honor Code, which applies to all students, faculty, and staff, should be renamed “University Code of Conduct” and from the resolution submitted by the Senate of College Councils, a new Student Honor Code should be created. Chair Martha Hilley presented the report at the Faculty Council meeting on January 28, 2013. No action was required of the Faculty Council.
On February 6, 2013, President Powers formally adopted the new Student Honor Code and the University Code of Conduct.
