D 8665 Proposal to Clarify Rules Relating to the Elections of Vice Chairs and Chairs Elect of General Faculty Standing Committees.Posted on the Faculty Council website on May 4, 2011. The secretary has classified this as general legislation. On May 9, 2011, the Faculty Council approved the proposed changes. On May 10, 2011, the legislation was transmitted to the President. On May 10, 2011, the legislation was transmitted to the President. In a letter dated May 16, 2011, the President’s office requested written recommendation regarding the legislation from Provost Leslie and Vice President Ohlendorf. On May 31, 2011, Provost Leslie recommended approval of the proposal. On June 26, 2012, UT System granted final approval.

D 8905-8920 Proposed Changes to the College of Fine Arts Chapter in the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014. TThe items listed below were posted on the Faculty Council website on August 24, 2011, on a no-protest basis with a protest deadline of September 3, 2011. The Secretary has classified these proposals as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. A protest was received against these items in the Office of the General Faculty; however, on September 8, 2011, the protest was withdrawn, and the proposals were transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president. The proposals were subsequently approved by the provost and transmitted to UT System on October 17, 2011. On November 3, 2011, approved by UT System and transmitted to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. On June 28, 2012, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board granted approval.

  • Delete Recording Technology Major from Bachelor of Music (D 8910-8914).
  • Add Emphasis for Music, Music Business, and Recording Technology to BA in Music (D 8915-8920).
D 8942-8946 Proposed Changes to the Bachelor of Architecture/Bachelor of Arts, Plan II, Dual Degree Program to the School of Architecture Chapter in the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014. Posted on the Faculty Council website on of September 1, 2011, on a no-protest basis with a protest deadline of September 11, 2011. The Secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. A protest was received against this item in the Office of the General Faculty; however, on September 13, 2011, the protest was withdrawn, and the proposal was transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president. Subsequently, the proposal was approved by the provost and transmitted to UT System on October 17, 2011. On November 3, 2011, UT System approved the legislation. Approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board is not required since it was an approved consolidation resulting from the low producing report, which originated from the Coordinating Board. No further action is required.

D 9108-9117 Motion to Update the Core Curriculum Course Lists for the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014. Posted on the Faculty Council website on October 25, 2011.The Secretary has classified this as general legislation. The motion was approved by the Council at its meeting on October 31, 2011, and transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on November 2, 2011. On February 15, 2012, Vice Provost Gretchen Ritter transmitted the legislation to UT System recommending approval.On August 21, 2012, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board granted final approval .

D 9132-9134 Proposed Changes to the Basic Education Requirements.Posted on the Faculty Council website on October 26, 2011. The secretary has classified this as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. The motion was approved by the Council at its meeting on October 31, 2011, and transmitted to the Provost on behalf of the President on November 2, 2011. On December 21, 2011, the proposal was approved and transmitted to UT System. On April 13, 2012, UT System granted final approval stating on June 28, 2012 that Texas Higher Education Coordination Board approval is not required.

D 9286-9291 Proposed Changes to the Bachelor of Architecture/Bachelor of Arts, Plan II, Dual Degree Program to the School of Architecture Chapter in the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014. The Committee on Undergraduate Degree Program Review (CUDPR) recommended approval of the changes on December 14, 2011, and forwarded the proposals to the Office of the General Faculty. The secretary classified the proposals as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. The Faculty Council approved these proposals on a no-protest on January 9, 2012, and they were transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on January 10, 2012. The Committee on Undergraduate Degree Program Review (CUDPR) recommended approval of the change on January 18, 2012, and forwarded the updated core curriculum course list to the Office of the General Faculty. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. The Faculty Council approved the changes on a no-protest basis on January 30, 2012. The proposal was transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president on January 31, 2012. On February 21, 2012, Vice Provost Gretchen Ritter transmitted the legislation to UT System recommending approval. On March 12, 2012, UT System approved the legislation, which was subsequently transmitted it to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. On June 28, 2012, the Higher Education Coordinating Board granted final approval.

D 9625-9633 Proposed Changes to the Bachelor of Science, Biology Degree Program in the College of Natural Sciences Chapter in the Undergraduate Catalog, 2012-2014. Posted on the Faculty Council website on April 13, 2012. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. The Committee on Undergraduate Degree Program Review recommended approval of the changes on a no-protest basis and forwarding the proposed changes to the Office of the General Faculty. On April 23, 2012, the Faculty Council approved the proposal on a no-protest basis. On April 24, 2012, it was transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president. On May 4, 2012, Vice Provost Gretchen Ritter transmitted the legislation to UT System recommending approval. On June 8, 2012, UT System granted final approval.

D 9672-9673 Proposed Addition of Language in the General Information Catalog that requires Withdrawal Counseling. Posted on the Faculty Council website on April 25, 2012. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. On April 19, 2012, the Educational Policy Committee recommended approval and forwarded the proposal to the Office of the General Faculty. On May 4, 2012, the Faculty Council approved the proposal on a no-protest basis. On May 7, 2012, it was transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president. On May 30, 2012, Vice Provost Gretchen Ritter transmitted the legislation to UT System recommending approval. On July 5 2012, UT System granted final approval.

D 9674 Proposed Changes to the Medical Withdrawal Rules in the General Information Catalog. Posted on the Faculty Council website on April 25, 2012. The secretary has classified this proposal as legislation of general interest to more than one college or school. On April 19, 2012, the Educational Policy Committee recommended approval and forwarded the proposal to the Office of the General Faculty. On May 4, 2012, the Faculty Council approved the proposal on a no-protest basis. On May 7, 2012, it was transmitted to the provost on behalf of the president. On May 30, 2012, Vice Provost Gretchen Ritter transmitted the legislation to UT System recommending approval. On July 5 2012, UT System granted final approval.

D 9689-9690 Report of the Committee to Nominate Faculty Council Officers for 2012-2013. Posted on the Faculty Council website on May 4, 2011. At its meeting on May 9, 2012, the Faculty Council elected the following officers to serve on the Faculty Council Executive Committee for 2012-13: Hillary Hart, chair elect (distinguished sr. lecturer civil, architectural, and environmental engineering), Professors Patrick J. Davis (pharmacy), Michael P. Domjan (psychology), and Susan R. Klein (law) were elected to serve as members of the 2012-13 Faculty Council Executive Committee. Other members of the 2012-13 Faculty Council Executive Committee are Martha F. Hilley, chair (professor, music), Alan W. Friedman, past chair (professor, English), Sue A. Greninger (secretary associate professor, human development and family sciences), and Hunter March, chair, Graduate Assembly (professor, music).
