Questions to the President.
Update on February 17, 2014, question from the floor from Blinda McClelland (lecturer, biology instruction office): “My concern is for the work study program and the hourly pay that the students get, and whether they are being compensated for the snow days either by the administration or by the departments, the units. How is that being handled?”
President Powers said that he looked into the matter in question and confirmed that student workers and hourly paid staff are not paid for time missed when the University closes due to inclement weather or emergencies—these two categories of employees are only paid for actual hours worked. He did say, however, that the University encourages units to find time for these employees to make up the work if it can be fit into their schedules so that it lessens the financial impact of the closure.
