Organizational Changes

The following changes will be reflected in the next catalog that’s published. They are “noncatalog changes” in that they do not affect a student’s ability to follow requirements given in the current catalog. Therefore, they may be implemented as soon as they are approved.

  1. Creation or deletion of an academic unit
An academic unit is a unit that offers courses, either directly or through subdivisions. It may be called center, division, department, school, or college.
A new unit must be acknowledged by the THECB before the courses it will offer can be added to the course inventory.
Final acknowledgment: Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board staff
  2. Changing the name of an academic unit
In general, a name change must be acknowledged by THECB before any changes to the unit’s course inventory may be made.
Final acknowledgment: Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board staff
  3. Changing a division to a department
A division may offer courses but not degrees; a department may offer both courses and degrees.
Pending: Can this change be absorbed into the description of another change?
  4. Moving a field of study
