The annual meeting of the Texas A&M Faculty Senate and the UT Faculty Council will meet on Monday, February 25 at the University of Texas Club in the President's Room from 10:30-4:00. The program includes discussions on the impact of recent regents-based, legislative, and THECB requirements that include conflict of interest, faculty-review process, and core course objectives. Also to be discussed are ideas for publicizing the real work that faculty do (as a way of realistically defining faculty “productivity) and the impact on Tier 1 universities of massive online courses (MOOCs) produced on platforms such as EdX.
A&M President R. Bowen Loftin and A&M Provost, Karan Watson will speak with us, as will UT President Bill Powers and Provost Steve Leslie. I hope that Senator Kel Seliger and Representative Dan Branch will be able to take time from their hectic schedules at the Capitol to join Chairman of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Fred Heldenfels in giving updates on matters affecting higher education in Texas.
Please consider attending as much as you are able; it is important for us to have a great turnout considering the distinguished roster of invitees. If you can be there for lunch (11:30-12:45), please let Debbie Roberts know: email@example.com.
I've attached a copy of the agenda. Please RSVP by responding to this email no later than 5:00 pm on February 15.
Thanks very much; I look forward to seeing you all there!
