Travel to Austin and Campus
When planning your visit to UT Austin, we encourage you to connect with the Office of Admissions or Visitor's Center for a student-led guided tour of campus. Make the most of your visit to Austin by exploring the university's event calendar, programming at the Visual Arts Center, as well as events in the College of Fine Arts for art, entertainment, and engagement with our community.
Visiting Campus and Austin has helpful information on how to get to Austin by airplane, bus, car, or train. You will also find driving directions, campus and visitor parking maps, and information on accommodations and activities in Austin. For transportation information within the city, visit Capital Metro Transit for MetroBus and MetroRail service and Getting Around on the UT website. The #100 Austin Flyer bus route services the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and has a stop on campus not too far away from the Department.
Each weekday in the fall and spring semesters, about 70,000 students, faculty and staff converge on the Forty Acres that comprise the UT Austin Campus, so plan your visit accordingly and try to avoid, or at least plan ahead, for slow-downs on IH-35 and MoPac (Highway Loop 1) during early morning, noon, and late afternoon rush-hour traffic.
Campus and Department Location
The UT Austin Campus is located between Dean Keaton Street to the North, Martin Luther King Boulevard to the South, Guadalupe Street to the West, and the frontage road of IH 35 to the East. You can reach the campus from these major roadways:
From the South, take Martin Luther King Boulevard exit heading west for South campus, campus will be on your right. Turn right on Trinity and this will shortly merge with San Jacinto Street. From the North, take Dean Keaton Street exit heading west for North campus; campus will be on your left. Turn left on San Jacinto Street.
MoPac/Highway Loop 1
Take Windsor Road exit heading east. This turns into 24th Street, which will cross Guadalupe Street, the Western border of campus, and then enter directly into campus.
From East, take IH-35 North and follow directions for IH-35 above. From West, take MoPac/Highway Loop 1 North and follow directions for MoPac/Highway Loop 1 above.
From East, take I-35 South and follow directions for I-35 above. From West, follow directions for Highway 71 above.
From North, take MoPac/Highway Loop 1 South and follow directions for MoPac/Highway Loop 1 above. From South, take Highway 111/Airport Boulevard North to MLK Boulevard. Head east on MLK Boulevard and campus will be on your right. Turn right on Trinity and this will shortly merge with San Jacinto Street.
Once on campus, you may stop at any of the guard stations and say you have an appointment in the Art Building or the Doty Fine Arts Building. The guard will direct you to park in the San Jacinto Parking Garage. The Department of Art and Art History is housed in two buildings on the College of Fine Arts campus. The Art Building (cream and orange brick) is located on the corners of 23rd and San Jacinto Streets and the the Doty Fine Arts Building (brown brick) is located on the corners of 23rd and Trinity Streets. Both buildings are just North of Darrel K. Royal Memorial Football Stadium. Please review the UT Austin Campus Map and click on Section 6. The closest parking garage is the San Jacinto Garage (SJG) and is also shown in Section 6 of the map referenced above. Another parking option is the Manor Garage (MAG), click on Section 8 of the Campus Map.

Visiting our Undergraduate Programs
College of Fine Arts Information Sessions
College of Fine Arts Information Sessions provide prospective freshmen and transfer students with an overview of degree programs in the Department of Art and Art History, Butler School of Music, and the Department of Theatre and Dance. Sessions also provide an introduction to the College's audition and portfolio requirements for admission. Information regarding courses and opportunities for non-majors is also provided.
College of Fine Arts Information Sessions, are offered on most Monday and Fridays at 1:30 PM in the Doty Fine Arts Building, Fine Arts Student Center, located at the corner of E. 23rd Street and Trinity Street. Sessions conclude with walking tours of studio, gallery, performance spaces in the Department of Art and Art History, Winship Drama Building, and Butler School of Music. Register online!

Elana Logsdon, Assistant Academic Advisor for Undergraduate Students, is happy to meet with current and former UT Austin students, both declared majors and those students seeking to change major to or add a simultaneous major in our department. Please consult the University's official Academic Calendar for specific dates and times the University could be closed. Elana's office is located on the third floor of the Art Building (ART), Room 3.340 (look for a vertical blue sign that reads "Undergraduate Advisor" hanging just outside the door.)
Visiting our Graduate Programs
To request an appointment with the Art Education Graduate Advisor, Dr. Paul Bolin, email Dr. Bolin directly via email@example.com. Dr. Bolin is generally available to meet with prospective students from September 1 to early December, and mid-January through early May. If your schedule doesn't mesh with Professor Bolin's, contact the Graduate Coordinator, kt shorb at firstname.lastname@example.org. She is available to meet with prospective students Monday through Wednesday and Friday, Fall and Summer from 9am to 4pm. No appointments will be made on dates when the University is closed. The Graduate Coordinator's office for the MA Art Education Program is on the third floor of the Art Building (ART), Room 3.330 (in the middle hallway, with a vertical blue sign that reads "Graduate Coordinator" hanging just outside the door.) Dr. Bolin's office is located on the third floor of the North wing in ART 3.414.
The Graduate Office in Art History is open to visitors by appointment only from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. The office is closed on all university holidays. As first point of contact, visitors may make an appointment to visit the Graduate Coordinator, Stacy Brodie by email via email@example.com. If you would like to visit with other members of the Art History faculty, please email them directly to request an appointment. The Graduate Coordinator's office for the MA and PhD Art History Programs is located in the Doty Fine Arts Building (DFA), Room 2.124B. Access the building from Trinity Street by walking up the pedestrian ramp which automatically places you on the second level of the building; as soon as you enter the building, proceed down the hallway and turn right before the stairs, go past the elevators and into the Art History suite. The Graduate Office is the second door on the left.
We do not schedule formal tours for the facilities though you are welcome to walk through the Art Building during business hours. To request an appointment to discuss the program with the the Design Graduate Advisor, Dr. Carma Gorman, please contact the Design Division's administrative associate, Becky Nasadowski firstname.lastname@example.org. For questions related to the application process or financial aid, please contact the Graduate Coordinator, kt shorb at email@example.com who is also available to meet with prospective students for scheduled meetings. The Graduate Coordinator's office for the MFA Design Program is on the third floor of the Art Building (ART), Room 3.330 (in the middle of the hallway, with a vertical blue sign that reads "Graduate Coordinator" hanging just outside the door.) Professor Gorman's office, ART 1.212, is located on the first floor of the Art Building.
Fall Semester Open House and Info Session — Prospective Students Only
We invite prospective students to join us at our Open House for prospective students at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 31, 2015. If you are making plans to visit, this is the time to do it! The day will include: brunch, meeting current grads and studio faculty from all 5 areas; current student work, a tour of the studios and facilities, and info session. Prospective students who cannot attend the Open House may register for the Info Session on Monday, November 16. Info Sessions will not include grads, faculty area representatives, or student work. You will meet with the Graduate Advisor and the Graduate Coordinator who will tour you through the facilities and talk about the program in addition to answering your questions.
To reserve your spot, visit the online registration page at least three business days in advance of one of those dates. Those attending the Monday Info Session will receive information via email the Friday before.
Students are strongly encouraged to attend the Open House or Info Session. If none of those dates are possible, students may request an appointment with the Studio Art Graduate Advisor, Professor Amy Hauft via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Professor Hauft may be available to meet with prospective students from Sept 1 to the end of November on Mondays and Fridays, only. If it's not possible to meet with Professor Hauft due to scheduling conflicts, contact the Graduate Coordinator, kt shorb, at email@example.com. She is available to meet with prospective students Monday through Wednesday and Friday, September through December and May through July from 9am to 4pm. No appointments will be made on dates when the University is closed. If you would like to visit with other members of the Studio art faculty, please email them directly to request an appointment. Meetings with the Graduate Advisor or Graduate Coordinator will NOT include a tour, will last about half an hour, and will be solely for the purpose of answering questions not otherwise answered on the website. Please, no drop-ins.
Group visits to the Department of Art and Art History are available for students in grades 8-12* or community college, for groups of 75 or fewer guests. Department representatives are available to provide information about our academic programs, admissions, and tour studio facilities in the Department of Art and Art History. Group visits may also include activities with the Visual Arts Center and Blanton Museum of Art if scheduled through these organizations. To inquire about a group visit for your student group, please contact Karoline Liu, Director of Recruitment and Admissions, at 512-471-0265.
*If your group is in middle school, please understand that we do not have a team outreach staff assigned to work with this age group. Please contact us to explore other programming options through the university Visitor's Center.
