The Austin Critics Table is marking its 20th year of commending outstanding work on the local arts scene. Students and faculty of the College of Fine Arts once again dominate the list of nominees! Congratulations to our outstanding students, faculty and alums!
For the 20th year, an informal affiliation of local arts critics has recognized the year’s most exceptional achievements in dance, classical music, the visual arts, and theatre. Department of Theatre and Dance productions, students, faculty, alumni and friends are well represented on this year’s list of nominations. Winners will be announced of the Critics’ Table Awards will be announced on June 4.
According to musician Herb Alpert about the recipients of this year's award winners, "[they] take aesthetic, intellectual and political risks, and challenge work-out conventions. They're unafraid of the unknown."
David Stuart, professor of Mesoamerican art and writing at The University of Texas at Austin, deciphered glyphs discovered in Guatemala. Stuart and his team are published in Science journal's May 11, 2012 issue and National Geographic's June 2012 issue.
Pianist Joseph Choi and Jonathon Pearson Altizer, Stephanie Chung and Angela Park of The Hill-Country Reed Trio were recognized by the Regents for their exceptional work in the musical arts. Congratulations to our talented students!
