Aeolus Quartet Wins Plowman Chamber Music Competition

The Aeolus Quartet, the resident graduate string quartet at the Butler School of Music was awarded the grand prize at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition this weekend in Columbia, Missouri. The competition, co-presented by the Missouri Symphony Society, the Odyssey Chamber Music Series, The University of Missouri School of Music, and First Baptist Church of Columbia, is one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the nation. The grand prize includes a cash award of $3500. The quartet's winning program included String Quartet no. 4 by Béla Bartók and String Quartet, op. 13 by Felix Mendelssohn.

The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin today announced plans to create The UT Academy of Music, a comprehensive music school for community learning. 
The academy will provide a diverse range of music instruction to the Austin community, including early childhood music and private and group instruction for children and adults of all ages.

We currently employ a professional staff of 60 in our administrative offices and production shops and annually hire 90 part-time student workers. We are the largest performing arts organization in Central Texas, and we are proud to serve The University of Texas and the surrounding communities.
