2014 New York Seminar

NY Seminar 2014 ParticipantsNY Seminar 2014 Participants

The 2014 New York Seminar was a smashing success! Over spring break, fifteen College of Fine Arts students traveled from Austin to Manhattan to participate in the seventh annual NY Seminar. The program highlighted careers in arts administration for both the visual and performing arts. Students visited a wide variety of arts institutions including Harlem, Stage, Big Apple Circus, Symphony Space, Weill Institute at Carnegie Hall, 2econd Stage, Magic Shop, BRIC, Socrates Sculpture Garden, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, JP Morgan Chase, Aperture, and The Brooklyn Museum of Art.

At each institution, students met with arts administrators, were given an overview of the various job responsibilities employees held, and learned how their work contributed to the success of the organization. The most valuable aspect of the seminar was the insight gained by students.

During the visit, a vocal performance senior at UT's Butler School of Music shadowed Joseph Soucy, Associate, Artist Training Programs, at Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute. Two students from the Dept. of Art & Art History applied to paid internships at Aperture.

The New York Seminar is hosted by the New York Texas Exes in collaboration with the College of Fine Arts Career Services (FACS) and several other colleges across the university. FACS would like to thank each organization and alumnus for generously donating his or her time and knowledge.
