| Event Description: | 2011-2012 Fine Arts Season Performance Wang Fujian, conductor Presented in partnership with the Asian American Cultural Center Enjoy an evening of traditional and contemporary Chinese music as the Chamber Ensemble of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra makes its Texas debut. Founded in 1952, this is the first modern Chinese orchestra in China and is renowned for its harmonious collaboration among its members and outstanding mastering of all types of works, including original compositions. Under the direction of Wang Fujian, their eclectic performance repertoire includes Chinese orchestral works, stringed and wind instrumental pieces, Cantonese music, plucked-strings instrumental ensemble, and percussion instrumental ensemble. “The first truly modern Chinese classical music ensemble.” The 2012 national tour of the Chamber Ensemble of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra is part of a major, multi-year cultural exchange with Minneapolis-based Arts Midwest, the Chinese Ministry of Culture, and the US Major University Presenter’s consortium. Support for the tour has been provided by the Ministry of Culture, People’s Republic of China. |
