The UT Jazz Orchestra will perform with guest artist Italian composer/arranger Mario Raja. The program includes a number of premieres of compositions of members of the orchestra.
Mario Raja is an Italian saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator, who leads the Mario Raja Quartet and Big Band. He has worked with a number of great artists including Muhal Richard Abrams, Bob Brookmeyer, Hal Crook, Rachel Gould, Mel Lewis, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, Sal Nistico, George Pretre, Enrico Rava, Gary Smulyan, Bruno Thomas, Massimo Urbani, Stevie Wonder, and Phil Woods. He has composed and arranged for film, television, advertising and for a variety of groups from jazz combos, symphony orchestras, the Big Band of Beijing, and The Mingus Big Band.
