| Event Description: | Part of the 2012-2013 Texas Performing Arts Season Sound Prints Presented in partnership with KUTX Music and the Butler School of Music Grammy-winning saxophonist and composer Joe Lovano and two-time Grammy nominated trumpeter Dave Douglas bring their all-star ensemble Sound Prints to the Bass Concert Hall stage for an evening of powerhouse jazz. In addition to collaborating on acclaimed recordings such as Trio Fascination: Edition Two and John Zorn’s Stolas, Lovano and Douglas were co-leaders of the renowned SFJAZZ Collective in 2008, showcasing arrangements of jazz icon Wayne Shorter. The experience led the two instrumentalists to assemble this all-star quintet for a national tour. Joe Lovano has distinguished himself for some three decades as a driving force in creative music. He has recorded 22 albums for Blue Note Records in 20 years, and is a member of the dynamic young jazz ensemble Us Five, which also features bassist Esperanza Spalding. In 2010, Lovano was awarded the Jazz Journalists Association’s Musician and Tenor Saxophonist of the Year and DownBeat’s Jazz Artist and Tenor Saxophonist of the Year. |
