Event Description:

Center Space Project presents “A Conversation on Abstraction,” a discussion session with Nick Griffin, Phillip Harrell, and Anne Riley, the artists in the exhibition Now What It Never Was. Amidst the works of the show, the artists will discuss the exhibition in relation to the Hammer Museum’s 2008 exhibition Oranges and Sardines, a major influence on them and the inspiration for their current show.

Anne Riley graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2012 with a BFA in Studio Art. She has an associate degree in art from Brookhaven Community College, where five years ago she studied under Chong Chu and met Nick Griffin and Philip Harrell. Nick Griffin graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2011 with a BFA in Studio Art. He attended Brookhaven Community College studying painting under Chong Chu before moving to Austin in 2010. Philip Harrell graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2011 with a BFA in Studio Art and also studied under Chong Chu with Riley and Griffin.
