| Event Description: | Hosted during the opening reception for the exhibition A Nation of Fear at the Visual Arts Center, Center Space Project presents a panel discussion that examines the current wave of violence in Mexico, its causes, and the widespread social and political effects, both in Mexico and the U.S. Moderated by Dr. George Flaherty, Assistant Professor in Art History at The University of Texas at Austin, this discussion is fueled by the issues confronted by exhibiting artists Miguel Aragón, Adriana Corral, and Raymundo Delgadillo. Other discussants include Dr. Nicole Guidotti-Hernández, author of Unspeakable Violence: Remapping U.S. and Mexican National Imaginaries; Dr. Martha Menchaca, author of Naturalizing Mexican Immigrants: A Texas History; Dr. Fred Valdez Jr., Director of the Mesoamerican Archaeological Research Laboratory at The University of Texas at Austin Pickle Research Campus; and Claudia Zapata, Director of Programs at the Mexic-Arte Museum. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition A Nation of Fear on view at the Visual Arts Center October 19 – November 10 |
