|Event Description:|| |
The Butler School of Music Composition Department, in a partnership with the Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts presents, as part of the acclaimed CLUTCH Recital Series, a CLUTCH Special Event: Austin Soundwaves Benefit Wind Ensemble Concert on Thursday, January 31 at 7:30pm in Bates Recital Hall. The concert will feature premieres of works by UT student and alumni composers Cassie Shankman, Russell Podgorsek, Joel Love, Christopher Ozley, Lane Harder, and Hermes Camacho, performed by student performers from the Butler School of Music as well as members of Austin Soundwaves, an El-Sistema based free music program founded by the Hispanic Alliance for the Performing Arts in 2011. Most of the participants are 5th-9th graders from East Austin College Prep Academy who otherwise would not be able to receive valuable musical instruction. 100% of the proceeds will go toward much needed instrument repairs, strings, reeds, replacement music stands, and the like.. Admission to the event is free, but donations will be solicited to benefit Austin Soundwaves. The concert will also feature a side-by-side performance by both the UT performers and Austin Soundwaves.
Webcast will begin streaming a few minutes before the performance. Visit the Butler School of Music website to listen.
