The University of Texas at Austin’s Printmaking Convergence program invites the public to a showcase designed to elevate the knowledge and appreciation of printmaking. In partnership with the Visual Arts Center, the Department of Art and Art History’s Printmaking areas will open their studios and provide demonstrations of various printmaking processes, including intaglio, relief printing, lithography, serigraphy (silkscreening), digital processes, and book arts.
In addition, Austin-area printmaking studios such as Flatbed Press, Coronado Studio, and Slugfest Printmaking Workshop, as well as organizations such as Women Printmakers of Austin and Texas Printmakers, will exhibit prints and provide information about their activities. Representatives from the printmaking programs at Austin Community College, St. Edwards University, Texas State University, and Southwestern University will also be present.
At 3pm, Dr. Francesca Consagra, Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Blanton Museum of Art, will lead a gallery tour of the Visual Arts Center’s exhibition New Prints 2012, organized by the International Print Center New York. The day will conclude with a public reception in the VAC at 4pm.
