| Event Title: | Visual Arts Center presents Art in Practice with George Scheer (More Information) |
|---|---|
| Event Description: | Art in Practice is a program series that provides guidance and insight into the professional world for students preparing for careers in the arts. Varying topics of conversation range from a nuts-and-bolts approach to gaining valuable job skills, to broad issues relevant to creative culture as a whole. This edition of Art in Practice invites George Scheer, co-founder and executive director of Elsewhere, a living museum, international residency program, and educational laboratory housed in a former thrift store in Greensboro, North Carolina. Scheer’s theoretical and artistic projects explore creative communities as political constituencies. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Communication/Performance Studies at UNC–Chapel Hill and holds an MA in Critical Theory and Visual Culture from Duke University, as well as a BA in Political Communications from the University of Pennsylvania. His current research explores the aesthetic context for social change and political practice. |
