|Event Description:|| |
Visiting Composer Andrea Clearfield will be the focus of this concert of the New Music Ensemble, along with the world premiere of UT Student Composer Ben Stonaker’s 2012 PHOSPHENES I: Isolation (for chamber orchestra), a world premiere. Also on the program is an earlier work of Clearfield’s, a proto-jazz piece called TRAX, written for the ensemble Relache in 2002.
Clearfield, a native of Philadelphia, is a pianist and educator as well as a composer. Holding a DMA from Temple University, she has written a large number of works in various genres, but is primarily know for her choral music. She has composed nine choral cantatas to date. TSE GO LA, a reflection of the Tibetan rites of passage, is the ninth—and constitute the entire second half of this concert. Set in both the English verse of Sienna Craig and the Mustang dialect of Tibetan (folk poetry), this 35 minute work will employ both the UT Concert Chorale (James Morrow, director) and the women of the UT Chamber Singers, along with the chamber orchestra provided by the New Music Ensemble. The work will be conducted by Dan Welcher.
Webcast will begin streaming a few minutes before the performance. Visit the Butler School of Music website to listen.
