INA GARTEN, THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA
|Event Title:||INA GARTEN, THE BAREFOOT CONTESSA (Tickets)|
|Event Description:|| |
Presented in partnership with Texas Monthly
To open the 2013-2014 season, Texas Performing Arts invites you to enjoy an evening with the #1 New York Times bestselling cookbook author and Emmy-winning host of Barefoot Contessa on the Food Network, Ina Garten, in a lively and insightful conversation with Texas Monthly’s Patricia Sharpe.
Once a budget analyst during the Carter administration, Garten left Washington, DC in 1978 to buy a 400 sq. ft. store called Barefoot Contessa in East Hampton, New York. Eighteen years later, Barefoot Contessa had grown to a 3,000 sq. ft. store and Garten decided it was time to shake things up by selling the store to her chef and manager and begin writing a series of phenomenally successful Barefoot Contessa cookbooks.
In 2002 Food Network approached Ina Garten to do a cooking show based on her cookbooks and her love of entertaining. She was reluctant but decided to challenge herself to do 13 shows. That was eleven years ago and her Emmy-winning cooking show, Barefoot Contessa, is now one of the highest rated shows on Food Network.
“As always, the multitalented Garten – a White House nuclear budget analyst many years back – was frank, funny, and dedicated to real home cooking rather than flash-in-the-pan tricks.” – The Seattle Times
