21 November 2013, 1:00 p.m.
Join Landmarks for a special screening of Gordon Matta-Clark’s video Splitting. An introduction and Q&A will be conducted by Robin Williams, a PhD Candidate in the Department of Art + Art History at UT Austin. Williams studies relationships between the visual and performing arts in New York City during the 1960s and 1970s.
Meet us at the Atrium Bleachers in the ART building adjacent to art history classrooms and the Visual Arts Center galleries. The ART building is located on the corner of East 23rd Street and San Jacinto Boulevard.
Gordon Matta-Clark’s 1974 video Splitting depicts each phase of his first large-scale and most celebrated Anarchitectural project. In it, the artist physically and metaphorically tears through spatial and structural barriers to reveal social and cultural obstacles as well as those between human and natural environments.
