Über musicians Chris Thile of Punch Brothers, and Edgar Meyer, are no strangers to Texas Performing Arts, having performed separately in past seasons. They join forces for a remarkable evening that reaches far beyond traditional musical boundaries.
These two MacArthur Fellows have collaborated on several critically acclaimed projects including the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions, a 2008 recording of original compositions and, most recently, Chris Thile’s 2013 solo recording, Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1, produced by Meyer. The duo’s next recording of original material will be released in 2014.
Edgar Meyer’s stature in the music world is unlike any other. Hailed by the New Yorker as “the most remarkable virtuoso in the relatively unchronicled history of his instrument,” Meyer’s unparalleled technique and musicianship in combination with his gift for composition have brought him to the forefront of the field. He has composed pieces for violinist Hilary Hahn, the Emerson String Quartet, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, among others.
