Thanks Day 2010

During the week of November 8, The University of Texas at Austin held its first Thanks Day, allowing students to say “thank you” to alumni, faculty, family, donors and the state for supporting their education at UT.

The event was slated for this week, because it marked the first quarter of the school year, which is approximately the same proportion of a student’s education that is funded by tuition and fees. The remaining three-fourths is funded by many other sources, including taxpayers through state general revenue, alumni, parents, donors, research grants and other sources.

At COFA, Thanks Day events were led by the college’s student organization, Fine Arts Council, and COFA students signed thank you cards, which will be included in thank you letters to alumni, parents and friends, after they make their annual gifts.

The university’s Thanks Day event culminated on Wednesday, November 10, with more than 1,500 students signing a life-sized thank you card on Gregory Plaza, as well as individual thank you cards.
