Williams succeeds Bob Schmidt, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance, who is stepping down after serving as both Interim and Chair of the department since 2006, and Senior Associate Chair from 1996–2006.

Third year M.F.A. in costume design candidate, Ariana Schwartz, has been awarded the prestigious Zelma H. Weisfeld Costume Design and Technology Award. Presented by the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), The Zelma H. Weisfeld Costume Design & Technology Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated excellence or outstanding potential in the areas of costume design or technology in the performing arts while pursuing a graduate degree.

Beulah Hodge lived her 90 years with a grace and completeness that has been a gift to all who knew her. She was born on August 29, 1919, in Galesville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Guilford M. Wiley and Beulah Bernice Arnold; she died on November 28, 2009.
