Drama and Theatre for Youth Area Head, Dr. Coleman A. Jennings received the Distinguished Book Award from AATE at their annual conference in New York last month. Jennings was selected for his work as editor on “Nine Plays by JoséCruz González Magical Realism and Mature Themes in Theatre for Young Audiences”.

Frances Ya–Chu Cowhig, a graduate of the James A. Michener Center for Writers at The University of Texas at Austin, has won the 2009 Keene Prize for Literature for her play titled "Lidless," a poetic treatment of the issue of torture at the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Marcia Gay Harden (B.A. '80) accepted the Tony for “Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play” Sunday night for her role as “Veronica” in Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage. The award marks a first career win for Harden. Her Broadway debut as “Harper” in Tony Kushner's, Angels in America, garnered two Tony Award nominations in 1993.
