When: Tuesday, August 27, 2013
Where: Winship Drama Building (WIN) Room 1.172
What to Prepare
Please come prepared to take a shortened technique class taught by a faculty instructor (in Ballet, Contemporary or both if you choose). You will NOT need to bring prepared movement or music. Dance faculty will be observing all auditions. Placement results will be posted by 5:00 p.m. on the audition day.
What to wear?
WOMEN: For Ballet please wear single-colored leotard, pink tights and ballet shoes. For Contemporary class you will need to be barefoot. If you are auditioning for both classes, it will be most convenient for you to wear the same tights for the entire audition, so make sure you have tights that will also accommodate bare foot work (tights with the feet slit or footless tights). If this is not possible, you will have a brief break to change tights after the ballet portion of the audition.
MEN: For Ballet, please wear tightly fitting tee shirt, or black or white colored leotard; tightly fitting sweats or dancer’s shorts, or footed black or gray tights with ballet shoes or footless black or gray tights with thin socks and ballet shoes. The Contemporary section will be conducted in bare feet.
*Please note that baggy sweat pants, warmers, skirts, oversize shirts, etc. may NOT be worn for the placement audition class.*
8:30 - 9:00 a.m. Audition Registration
9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Ballet Placement Class
10:00 - 10:50 a.m. Contemporary Dance Placement Class
10:30 - 11:00 a.m. Audition Registration
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Ballet Placement Class
12:00 - 12:50 p.m. Contemporary Dance Placement Class
*Note – Students wishing to audition for Contemporary Technique only should warm up in WIN 2.120 and come to 1.172 ten minutes prior to the audition to register at that time.
The B.F.A. Dance Placement Auditions provide placement for admission into majors level dance technique classes. An intermediate level at minimum of either Ballet or Contemporary dance will serve students best for placement into dance technique courses that are restricted to dance majors.
Sometimes as a result of the placement audition, dance faculty recommend placement in Topics in Dance (302T). Placement at that level does not guarantee a student's enrollment in courses available to non-majors, however; it is an indicator of where the student will make the most progress at that particular time.
Note: No audition is required for TD 302T, TD 312T and TD 352T. See catalog specific course requirements. Instructor consent may be required.
