Favorite Memory of T&D:

Having a key to the building! Especially, when working on masks for Jim Glavan's mask-making class, listening to the UT football game on the radio as I worked on my projects just a few feet from the stadium.

Influential Professors or Classes:

Susan Tsu - a wonderful teacher, she was patient, kind, inspiring! Her office library was huge and fantastic. She introduced me to what has become my favorite artist - Erte.

Biography:

Anne Marie Beard began designing handbags in 2002 as a senior at UT, with the mission of creating beautifully made accessories for women with unique taste. Her degree in costume design from the University of Texas at Austin was the springboard in making her lifelong passion for sewing a business reality.

Anne Marie's work has been featured in trunk shows at the Austin Museum of Art, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and the Kerrville Wearable Arts Gallery. She has been honored to participate in Austin Fashion Week, The Cherrywood Art Fair, Maker Faire, Thread, Stitch, the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and dozens of events around Central Texas. Her passions include shopping for fabric, trying out every kind of interfacing available, and chatting with colleagues about how fulfilling it is to follow your dreams.

Anne Marie is a leader in the Austin Craft Community. She runs the 500+ member Babes in Business Networking Group, and is a member of Etsy Austin and the Austin Area Quilt Guild. In addition, she teaches classes based on her handbag designs to students around Central Texas.

In 2008, Anne Marie joined forces with her sister, Allison - to create The Lone Star Ladies. They produce fine craft and charitable shopping events in Austin, Texas. Their annual “Shop Austin” event has become the most anticipated Craft and Art event in Austin each Spring. In 2010 they founded the FRONTIER scholarship program - which seeks to encourage young people on their quest for artistic growth.

The Lone Star Ladies' latest venture is the Handmade Happenings Blog and EZine - community based coverage of “All Things Handmade” in Austin, Texas and San Diego, California.
